Whistler Whistler, B.C.- It's "ski and tee" season
in Whistler, British Columbia, Canada, with
area golf courses set to open May 7 and skiing
on Whistler Mountain open until early June.

Big Sky Golf & Country Club, designed
by Robert Cupp, opened for play April 24. The
course is located 25 minutes north of Whistler
in the spectacular Pemberton valley and offers
an 18-hole course, driving range and nine-hole
executive academy course. Named one of the
Top Courses in Canada by Golf Digest magazine
in May 2004, Big Sky Golf & Country Club
is a unique location for one- and two-day programs
and the womens-only weekend offered by the
Academy. On May 7, Whistler celebrates the opening
of the Nicklaus North Golf Course and Whistler
Golf Club. A Jack Nicklaus "Signature
Design," the Nicklaus North Golf Course
is set along the shores of glacier-fed Green
Lake . With challenging par threes and distinctive
bunkering, this par 71 offers a memorable experience
for golfers of all abilities, GPS on every
cart, and a full-service golf shop and practice
facility. The course plays host to a two-day
womens GLC Golf School , designed and taught
by long-time LPGA Tour golfer Gail Graham,
former Canadian Amateur Champion Tracey Lipp
and PGA champion Sheila Cowan Hood.
Originally opened in 1983, the Arnold
Palmer-designed, Whistler Golf Club was
Whistler's first golf course. After a $2.2
million renovation in 2000, the course
re-launched with upgraded turf conditions,
amenities and bunkers. The Whistler Golf
Club features an extensive Learning and
Performance Centre with a variety of lesson
programs, club fitting and repairs. The
Whistler Golf Club is a member of the Audubon
Cooperative Sanctuary Program (ACSP) for

Carved into the side of Blackcomb Mountain
, the Robert Trent Jones Jr.-designed Chateau
Whistler Golf Club opens May 7. With an elevation
change of more than 400 feet, the course features
exposed rock faces, ledges, wildlife, ravines
and waterfalls. Last season, Fairmont Hotels & Resorts
partnered with David Leadbetter Enterprises
to launch Whistler's David Leadbetter Golf
Academy at the Chateau Whistler Golf Club.
The academy offers computer and swing analysis
technology, practice fairway, target greens
and short game area. Whistler, located 668 metres (2,190 feet)
above sea level, boasts four golf courses featuring
sprawling fairways and spectacular views of
the region's snow-capped mountains. Area lakes,
mountain streams, stands of ancient cedars
and forested course borders offer shelter for
local wildlife such as brown bears, coyote,
beaver, deer, birds and more. With average
summer temperatures ranging from 9 to 23 degrees
Celsius (48 to 80 degrees Fahrenheit) and some
of the longest days of the year May through
August, players can golf from dawn to dusk
and log up to three rounds daily. Whistler is a year-round leisure and meeting
destination located 120 kilometres (75 miles)
north of Vancouver, B.C., Canada, and site
for the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter
Games. Whistler has a range of accommodations
totalling 5,400 rooms, and a wide selection
